I only just learned that birds are direct decedents of dinosaurs! If I had known this when I was busy demo-ing new songs in my kitchen cursing the canary that was singing, rather tweeting along, I would have been more patient. Perhaps I would have even been excited to think that a dinosaur was featured on the early kitchen demos. I pretty much told Damon the second I found out. I thought the whole singing with a dinosaur (note to self: possible album title – SINGING WITH DINOSAURS) might persuade Damon to forgive me for the damage his ears sustained as a result of the random and extremely loud and unpleasant frequency that littered the early demos of our new record. I labeled the early demos “WARNING LOUD BIRD”.
Everyone who came in contact with the demos assured me this wasn’t the best album title. I had to constantly reiterate that it wasn’t a title it was a serious health and safety warning. And no, “Turn down at 3:21 until 3:24” was not a song title. It was a specific direction to save the listener’s hearing. This snippet of exciting information did not persuade Damon to forgive me for the unpleasant demos he had to listen to. Damon worked in a pet store for a long time. He is basically a vet without a certificate. Seriously. He knows birds are modern dinosaurs. He wasn’t impressed and maintains his demand that I do not talk on the phone to him if the bird is anywhere near me. Anyway, good story but the point is I have a dinosaur in my kitchen. And with each new day and each fresh feather self-plucked from the little guy, he looks more like a dinosaur. Initially I was concerned about the feather plucking, but a quick call to the vet (aka Damon) assured me he was fine. Plus, he looks more dinosaur-like without feathers.
So yes we just finished making the “Warning Loud Bird” demos into a real life record sans any dinosaur noises! We spent a lovely month in Vancouver making it. I want to say we saw the sights and lived it up but we didn’t. We woke up, went to the studio every day with the lovely Howard Redekopp (who incidentally also knew that birds are basically modern day dinosaurs), worked really hard, went to sleep really late, got up really early, repeat. It was a completely awesome month. Oh wait! We did go to 3rd beach and the Lynn Valley Canyon bridge. Beautiful Vancouver indeed. The record is in the final stages of completion. As for a release date and a title? Sit tight! As soon as we know, you will too!

Last weekend we popped over to Wales to play at the awesome Green Man Festival. Thanks for standing in the cold and rain watching us! I couldn’t believe it!!!! I would have been sobbing in my tent about my wet socks. Humans really surprise me! Great job! We will be back in London to play our very own headline show in December! The first in over 18 months. We are really looking forward to it because the last one we did sold out and ruled! We don’t even have a record out in the UK yet!!!! This adds to the awesomeness of it all!!!

Australia we will play our own headline shows early next year with a new record in tow! Promise. We’re playing Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with those guys. Details and tickets at our tours page.

In other news our good friend Anna Krien is a genius and her book “Into the Woods” is going to be released on Sept 16 in Australia. What is it about? Check it here and here. A very important book to read and a huge issue to tackle. I am very, very, very proud of Anna! This will be such a good read!!! I cannot wait.
I think that’s all the stories I have for now. Love your pets and your lovers, even if they have no feathers.
