Sometimes when I catch long flights I am convinced I can see everyone’s germs flowing in and out of their mouths in giant streams of bad smelling breath. It’s not like I visualise it, I can actually see it. I can see a man in business class breathing out breath infused with cheese and sausage from the bowels of the plane aka my seat. I see it come out of his mouth, join with 100 other peoples delicious stomach acid infused breath and come hurtling down to my nose. It’s a terrible scene, all that recycled air. Someone once told me that when ground staff greet a long distance plane on the tarmac they often where surgical masks when they open the plane door because the stench is so bad. I would believe them. I also wish I had the guts to wear a surgical mask the whole time I was on a plane, including meal time because let’s face it I would be better off not inhaling plane food too. I worry that everyone would think I was crazy or a doctor. You don’t want to be mistaken for a doctor on a plane.
So yes Damon and I just flew back from Germany and tradition holds strong because I obviously breathed in a blend of the 150+ people’s germs on the plane and I now have some fantastic cold. It’s terrible! I basically get home from the airport, have a bath, get ready for bed and in the time between my bath and bed I can feel the 150+ people’s germ cocktail take root in my lungs. I am quite sure I can see the people I come home to, my nearest and dearest, thinking “oh shit, Kate is sniffing, she is going to make me sick again. I think it would be best if perhaps she stayed on tour”. Well I can’t stay on tour but I know I can bring you home an exquisite, foreign blend of other peoples germs. This blend that I have at the moment is probably half German and half Canadian. Very exotic.
I have to say that I always get sickest after I have caught a plane from or to Australia. We are a viral bunch of germ producers. Damon and I are so excited to be heading home to play shows in June! Germs be damned. Our Home Run Tour kicks off on June 2nd. Tickets for these shows are selling like hotcakes (pikelets) so get in now before our Mums buy them all! We also found out this week that our new single Dressed Sharply has been added to full rotation on JJJ. Hopefully you will hear a lot more of it and if a lot more isn’t enough, then you can request it HERE >
WALLS will be released in Australia on Shock Records on April 29.

Don’t forget we will be in NYC to launch our record on April 26…actually technically we will be in Brooklyn at the Knitting Factory. It’s going to be a really awesome night that is going to be broadcast live online HERE > and no doubt there will be some surprises in store! This show marks the beginning of a long run of dates that takes us everywhere (including several planes which means lots more colds!). Please check below to see if and when we are coming to your part of the world. Tickets on sale now. Get to it!
If you live near Rochester, NY you have one last chance to see us play some new songs before WALLS is officially released. We are lucky enough to be part of Record Store Day and the lovely folks at Record Archive (33 1/3 Rockwood St. Rochester, NY) have asked us to come in and play some songs. There could well be more surprises but I can’t give too much away. You just have to show up!!!! Record stores are one of my favourite places on earth. Damon and I worked together in one for years before we started An Horse. Sometimes on tour when we wander into a store we catch ourselves tidying up the vinyl or rearranging the flyers. Come to think of it, maybe Record Archive figured that out and we are expected to clean and play. No matter, it will be fun! We’re on at 5pm, Saturday 16th April.
See you all soon! New songs! New merch! New fun!
Sail safe (and wear a surgical mask).
